HSM2020 Postponed – New Date: 26.-27.October 2021

After careful consideration and discussion with the HSM2020 Executive Board, a decision has been made to cancel the HSM2020 Conference that was scheduled to take place from October 8-9, 2020 in Darmstadt.
The health and safety of all attendees, staff, exhibitors, presenters, and their families is our highest priority. Our decision to cancel this event was not taken lightly. We have been closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the Robert Koch Institut (RKI), the federal government, as well as state and local governments. So many states still remain under a State of Emergency, with many implementing travel restrictions for nonessential travel. These restrictions directly impact the majority of our members and would greatly reduce the number of attendees that could participate in the conference.

Welcome on the website of the 16th International Conference on High Speed Machining HSM 2020. Since 1997, the conference is focused on machining technology, machine tool design and related topics. The current 16th conference will be held in Darmstadt, Germany, from October 8th to October 9th, 2020. The conference is organized under sponsorship of International academy of production engineering CIRP.

Main Topics

  • Cutting tools, cutting processes, abrasive processes, cutting conditions and their optimization
  • Cutting process simulation and virtual machining
  • Machining strategies for high productivity
  • Machining of difficult-to-cut materials (titanium alloys, nickel- base alloys, stainless steels, hard materials) and nonmetallic materials (composites, ceramics)
  • Machinability of materials after additive or forming processes
  • Intelligent machines and intelligent manufacturing, monitoring of technological processes
  • Environmental aspects of the design and operation of machine tools
  • Machining dynamics and process optimization, chatter avoidance
  • Machine tool design, modeling, optimization and identification of machine tool behavior
  • Spindle modeling, testing and diagnostics
  • Feed drive modeling and optimization, control systems, control strategies and mechatronics
  • Thermal behavior of machine tools
  • High precision machining and high precision machines

  • Diagnostics and measurement of machine tool behavior
  • Noise and Vibrations in machine tools
  • Broaching: cutting tools and machine tools
